Recently I noticed being spammed by those "get free games, click this link"-shit by people on my friendslist
that obviously got their steam account hijacked.
There's two things you can do to prevent losing your steam account:
- NEVER click on any strange links that promise you free games, nothing in this world is for free, especially not from Valve!
- Verify your email-address with steam, that way your password and email-address CANNOT be changed by anyone but yourself!
To verify your mail-address right click on the Steam icon in your taskbar, select "Settings" and look for "Verify Contact Address"
(or something similar, cannot remember correctly since my address is verfied since they day they established that) in
the tab "Account".
After that Valve will send you an email with a link to verfy it.
Take a look at "Account" again and you will find a "( Verified )" next to your mail-address, your account is now safe!
